The Elder Haus will transport seniors within City limits to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, banks, etc. This is a free service for individuals 55 years or older. Drivers are on duty Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:30 a.m - 12:15 p.m. If you are finished with an appointment during this time and are waiting to be picked up, please be patient and they will pick you up as soon as their break is over.

  • Please call at least 24-48 hours in advance to schedule a ride. Every effort will be made to schedule your trip according to priority. Trip requests are scheduled on the following priority basis:
  • 1st Priority - medical, dental, and prescriptions (which should be called in ahead of time).
  • 2nd Priority - transportation to the grocery store or food pantry.
  • 3rd Priority - business affairs - such as the bank, post office, etc.
  • When calling to schedule, please limit your trips to two consecutive trips per day. This will allow us to accommodate as many people as possible. When you are finished completing business from your trip, call Elder Haus at 574-773-2424 and the dispatcher will contact the driver to let them know you are ready for pick up. Please do not contact the driver personally. Occasionally, the driver will simply wait for you at your stop if they aren’t needed for another rider.
  • Please be ready on time. Our drivers will not come to your door, so please be watching. They will honk and wait approximately 3 minutes. If you are not coming out, they will then go to the next scheduled stop. We try to make sure everyone gets to their appointments on time. (Drivers may arrive early but you are not obligated to board until your scheduled time if you are not ready.)
  • Please remember to cancel with advanced notice if you will not be riding. It is unacceptable for our drivers to become aware of your cancellation upon arrival at your location. Continual abuse of transportation may lead to suspension of riding privileges. If the rider is recorded as a No Show and/or has Continuous Cancellations for 3 or more of their scheduled rides within a 30 calendar day period, the rider’s service will be suspended for 10 business days. Riders can appeal their suspension by calling Elder Haus and asking to speak to the Director.
  • Seatbelts must be worn at all times during transport. If needed, the driver will assist all passengers with securing a seat belt. All wheelchair/scooters will be secured with a four-point, tie-down method. Wheelchair riders will wear approved seat belts.
  • When shopping, the amount of bags is limited to a TOTAL OF SIX. For example, 6 bags; or 5 bags and one gallon of milk; or 4 bags and a case of pop and a gallon of milk. Total of 6. Our drivers try to stay on schedule and also have space for everyone’s shopping items.
  • The drivers are not permitted to enter your home. They may carry your items to the door, or set them right inside the door.
  • When Wa-nee Public Schools are canceled due to weather, Elder Haus Senior Center will not be open. In addition, all transportation services will be canceled.
