MEMO:  HYDRANT FLUSHING SCHEDULE

The Nappanee Water Utility will conduct a comprehensive flushing of all City-owned fire hydrants from August 17th through August 20th.

Flushing operations will commence nightly at 9:30 p.m. and conclude by 4 a.m. This schedule has been implemented to enhance safety for both motorists and our flushing crew, as temporary street flooding may occur during the process. Furthermore, nighttime flushing allows for operations during non-peak water usage periods, thereby maintaining optimal water levels within our water towers.

Residents may observe some water discoloration during the morning hours. Please be advised that the water remains safe for consumption and bathing. However, caution is recommended when laundering clothing during this period.

Beginning August 10th, an increased dosage of chlorine will be introduced into the water system to facilitate the cleaning of water mains.  Consequently, residents may detect a chlorine odor in their water.

A tentative flushing schedule is outlined below:

  • Monday, August 17: Northeast section of the City, encompassing the area bounded by E. Market Street and N. Main St. to Berlin Ct. Ditch, including the Blackstone subdivision and U.S. 6 to the Nappanee Airport.

  • Tuesday, August 18: Northwood subdivision, Woodview Dr., McCormick Creek Subdivision, Heritage Farms subdivision, and Main St. north of Berlin Ct. ditch.

  • Wednesday, August 19: All areas west of Main St. and North of Market St., including the West Industrial Park.

  • Thursday, August 20: All areas south of Market St.

For any inquiries, customers are encouraged to contact the Utility at 574-773-4623.
