Line Cook
Position Summary
The Line Cook prepares and cooks high-quality food items for the restaurant and food service operations at the golf course clubhouse facility. This position is responsible for maintaining strict food quality, presentation, and safety standards, ensuring consistency across daily menus, tournaments, and special events. Working closely with both front- and back-of-house teams, the Line Cook plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional dining experience for golfers, event guests, and the public, operating in accordance with municipal policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations & Food Preparation
- Prepare, season, and cook a variety of menu items including appetizers, entrees, and special banquet orders according to established recipes.
- Set up, stock, and prep the station with all necessary supplies for the daily shift and upcoming events.
- Ensure all food is cooked to proper temperatures and presented attractively before serving.
- Efficiently manage ticket orders to ensure timely preparation and smooth coordination with front-of-house staff.
Safety, Sanitation & Quality Control
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized workstation, including walk-in coolers and storage areas.
- Follow all local health department regulations, municipal policies, and ServSafe sanitation guidelines.
- Properly store, rotate (FIFO), and label all food products to prevent spoilage and cross-contamination.
- Monitor food quality and immediately report any subpar ingredients or equipment malfunctions to the Food Service Manager.
Teamwork & Communication
- Maintain a professional, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Assist team members with prepping, cleaning, and dishwashing duties as needed or requested.
- Adapt quickly to changing volume levels during peak golf seasons, tournaments, and large banquets.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Minimize food waste through portion control and proper preparation techniques.
- Assist the management team in tracking inventory levels and identifying items that need restocking.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience working as a line cook, prep cook, or short-order cook.
- Experience in golf course, clubhouse, banquet, or high-volume hospitality operations is preferred.
- Solid knowledge of food safety standards, culinary terminology, and kitchen equipment operation.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
License and Certification Requirements
- Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- A minimum of 1–2 years of cooking experience in the food service industry.
Reporting Structure & Management Responsibilities
- This position reports directly to the Food Service Manager.
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds multiple times during a shift (e.g., food crates, stock pots). The employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods, walk, reach with arms and hands, and use hands to handle, chop, or feel ingredients. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus in a kitchen environment.
Equipment Operated
Commercial grills, fryers, ovens, slicers, knives, food processors, walk-in coolers/freezers, and standard kitchen utility tools.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to hot surfaces, open flames, sharp objects, and moving mechanical kitchen parts. The noise level in the kitchen environment is usually moderate to loud. The passage of employees through the work area is busy and fast-paced, especially during tournaments and peak dining hours.
