The Historic Preservation Commission meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall.
The commission is responsible for preserving and protecting Nappanee’s historic and architecturally significant buildings, sites, streetscapes, and neighborhoods—places that contribute to the city’s unique character and heritage. Local landmarks like Brick Street, West Park, the Train Depot, and Hartman House have been recognized through this work.
The commission’s duties include:
- Reviewing proposed Historic Preservation Overlay Districts
- Adopting or amending the "book of standards" for overlay districts
- Issuing Certifications of Appropriateness
- Reporting zoning violations related to Section 11.9 of the Unified Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinance
